Welcome to British Outsider Art, a web site dedicated to the outsider artists of Great Britain. Over the coming months, we will be adding to the profiles of artists on the site, and showing more of their works.
'I love all colours, when I'm painting it's like I'm dreaming with my eyes open. Most of my paintings I start from a blank then it develops from there on, sometimes I create around the clock it's like I go into a trance - it's pure divine magical, I'm compelled to paint.'
Novas Gallery Camden is delighted to be showcasing a selection of paintings, etchings and screen prints by artist John Joseph Sheehy. John became an artist in his fifties, without any formal training, but went on to study Fine Art at the University of East London, graduating in 2008. This exhibition offers a brief opportunity to glimpse the world of an artist inspired by his own understanding of God, nature, his current city life and memories of his childhood in rural Ireland.
This, the first major exploration of British Outsider Art, offers an opportunity to examine the wealth of art that exists on the margins of the mainstream. The exhibition aims to present a broad range of drawing, painting and sculpture from British artists and collections representing the unique creations of spirited individuals who follow a singular creative path, exploring inner realms and capable of conveying a powerful message, but seeking neither recognition nor reward.
